In some Cities and States it is a requirement for sex offenders
to display signs and bumper stickers as a warning to the other
members of society that must also coincide with them. If you're
going to make this kind of requirement for one heinous crime, the
lawmakers should make the same requirement for all crimes.
Differentiating each crime from the other. There should be signs
and bumber stickers for registered thieves, murderers, rapist,
drug users, drug dealers, DUI, and the list goes on.
To play Devils Advocate and throw sarcasm
to the wind . . .. I want to know what each person has done
wrong. I want to point the finger at those people forever and
know that they are guilty. That no amount of time they could've
ever served for their crime was enough and that they should pay
for the rest of their lives. Who cares if they've changed. Who
cares that this will increase the likelihood that they will be
marked for more violent crimes because of this court ordered
target symbol.
This is not to say that we should take pity
on the perpetrator of a criminal activity, only that singling out
one crime over the rest could result in a claim of prejudice. As
ridiculous as this may seem, it is likely.
Of course, if registering each separate crime for public inspection
is not possible . . . IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE AT ALL!
